| Members,Please see this provider notice released by CMS stating that they have identified a fraud scheme targeting Medicare providers. Scammers are sending phishing fax requests for medical records and documentation claiming to be part of a Medicare audit. Please DO NOT respond to these faxed requests. It’s important to note that CMS itself does NOT perform medical record audits. Palmetto GBA and the other MAC’s perform medical review audits on behalf of CMS as the Medicare Administrative Contractor. For Texas, medical review requests will come from Palmetto GBA, or another specific CMS contracted entity (depending on the type of review), but will not come specifically from CMS.If you receive a request and are unsure if it is legitimate, please contact the Palmetto GBA Provider Contact Center at 855-696-0705 or reach out to us to verify.Let us know if you have any questions!
